Disaster Assistance Center opening at Trotter Convention Center

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Mayor’s Office is setting up a one-stop Disaster Assistance Center.

The one-stop-shop for tornado relief efforts will be in the lower level of the Trotter Convention Center.

It’ll open Wednesday.

The Mississippi Emergency Management is also assisting.

City leaders and emergency responders said this will be where people can come to register for assistance and where volunteers that want to help will check-in.

“We want to make it as comfortable as we can for them. We want it to be easier for them rather than them being scattered going one place a mile here, go for assistance a mile at another place. That’s why we’re calling it a one stop disaster center,” said City of Columbus Mayor Robert Smith.

The center will open at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

A website is also being set up for assistance and volunteers.
