Details released about Monroe County plane crash

MONROE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – More details were released on the March 29 crash at the Monroe County airport.

A National Transportation Safety Board preliminary report said the Piper PA 28-180 was on its final approach to the Monroe County airport when the plane suddenly veered left.

The private pilot tried to abort the landing and fly around, but instead clipped the airport fence and crashed into a ditch. Both the pilot and a passenger sustained minor injuries.

That passenger, who is also a student pilot, had just bought the plane and was moving it from Hamilton, Alabama to the Monroe airport, where he intended to leave the plane while getting his pilot’s license.

The student pilot was not in control of the plane’s controls when it went down.
