Details Released For 41st Annual “Gumtree 10K”

TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Details are finalized for one of the largest 10K  runs in the state.

The 41st annual “Gumtree 10K ” is set for May 12th in downtown Tupelo.   For the third year in a row, proceeds from the run will benefit the Tupelo Lee Humane Society.

Construction on a new headquarters for the humane society is underway and officials with the shelter say the Gumtree 10K will be a big boost to the shelter and to hundreds of stray animals that need permanent homes.

“The race kicks off at 8:30 a.m. Registration is available day of, at 7 am and 8:30 we start running through streets of Tupelo, go through Joyner, explore different areas, lot of fun, support and help save some puppies and kittens too,” said Jennifer Martin, race director.

“It’s a wonderful partnership. We’re very fortunate to have them, have us as beneficiaries for this fundraiser. We can use it for building funds,” said Rachael Allred, director of the Tupelo Lee Humane Society.

The new building for the humane society should be ready this summer.
