Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks Stocks State Lakes With Crappie

[PRESS RELEASE]

JACKSON – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) recently stocked black crappie into two Northeast area lakes. Approximately 2,700 fish were stocked into newly renovated Lake Monroe near Aberdeen. Lake Lowndes State Park Lake, located near Columbus, received 7,200 crappie. Anglers are reminded that Lake Monroe is still closed to the public.

“According to our surveys, crappie are the most popular sport fish among Mississippi anglers,” says MDWFP Fisheries Biologist Tyler Stubbs. According to Stubbs, these fish will provide angling opportunities for boat and bank anglers at these lakes.

The fish were reared at MDWFP’s North Mississippi Fish Hatchery near Enid.
