Death in custody: Former NFL player’s family files lawsuit
PICKENS COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – The family of a former NFL player who died in the custody of the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
Nationally known Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump filed the federal suit on behalf of the wife of Glenn Foster, Jr.
In the suit filed in federal court in Birmingham, Crump claimed that Pickens County Sheriff’s Office and Jail staff assaulted Foster and denied him access to medical treatment.
Foster was arrested on December 4, 2021, after a speeding violation. At the time, it was reported that he was stopped in Reform for reckless endangerment and attempting to elude police. And that those charges were later changed to simple assault and third-degree robbery.
According to the suit, Foster died two days later after being found unresponsive in the back of a police cruiser when it arrived at a medical facility.
An independent autopsy claimed that Foster did not die of natural causes.
