Deadline Change Leaves ‘Bama Candidates Scrambling
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — Candidates for local, state and federal offices in Alabama are scrambling to meet some new qualifying deadlines.
In the past, candidates had until April to qualify for the June 3rd Democratic and Republic primaries. But to meet new federal requirements to get absentee ballots to military men and women serving overseas, the deadlines have been moved up to Feb. 7.
That caught some local political party leaders off guard but they say their candidates will meet the new requirements. Local candidates including sheriffs and coroners will run in the primaries while most legislative seats, statewide offices and members of Congress also are up for election.
