Deadly bicycle collision on Hwy 82 leads to arrest of Sulligent man

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus police arrested a west Alabama man in connection with a deadly crash.

44-year-old Bobby Wayne Higgins, of Sulligent, was charged with aggravated DUI.

Investigators said Higgins called 911 late Saturday night saying he hit something but wasn’t sure what he hit.

Higgins was not injured in the Highway 82 accident but was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

He remained in the Lowndes County jail.

Investigators said a man was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle on the highway.

Coroner Greg Merchant said his office is still attempting to contact family members of the victim.
