COLUMBUS, Miss. – (WCBI) Delicious breads, chocolate cookies, tiered cakes, fresh pies.
It’s all in a day’s work for Shelly Mast and her sister Starla.
Nearly two years ago, the Mast family opened the Corner Bakery in Columbus. Since then, homemade treats have been flying off the shelves. Now, they are preparing for their busiest time of year– the holiday season.
The bakery is already taking orders, and Shelly encourages everyone to order early.
A batch of dinner rolls can complete any meal. The secret behind baking bread? Yeast and luke warm water. Cold and hot water will kill the yeast, and not allow it to rise.
Eggs, flower, sugar, and a good ole fashioned dough hook. While the dough was rising, we moved on to making a seasonal specialty: pumpkin whoopie pies. With the filling already whipped up, we worked on the spicy cookies.
For Shelly Mast and her sister Starla, it’s a labor of love, making this just one more day in the life.
