Crowds From Around The Globe Celebrate Elvis’ 85th Birthday In Tupelo
TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -People from around the nation and the world celebrated what would have been Elvis Presley’s 85th birthday in his hometown.
It was 85 years ago that Presley was born in the famous two room house that is now the centerpiece of the Birthplace and Museum.
Cupcakes were available for guests who traveled from as far as Great Britain for the annual birthday party where it all started.
Many of the guests visited Graceland for a birthday celebration and then made the trip to the singer’s birthplace.
“It’s really emotional, and a privilege to be here, I think everybody needs to know where it started from before they know where it led,” said Phil Johnson, from Great Britain.
“The younger generations don’t understand what it was like in the 30s and 40s, it’s hard for them to understand being poor and not having anything, those people are the ones that love him and respect him, they love his music , everything about him,” said Dick Guyton, executive director of the Elvis Presley Birthplace.
More than one hundred thousand people visit the Elvis Presley Birthplace and Museum each year.
