Crisis response: How MSU Campus Police responds
MISSISSIPPI STATE, Miss. (WCBI) – The “Maroon Alert” issued on Mississippi State’s Campus required officials to inform the public quickly and efficiently.
The university’s police department, made up of 15 sworn officers, is the first line of defense.
There is also a crisis action team that engages in issues from severe weather, power outages, and other potential crisis situations.
It’s made up of law enforcement, student affairs, athletics, and other representatives from major divisions on campus.
Vice President of Strategic Communications Sid Salter said the university is implementing a new communications system.
“We’re presently engaging a separate SMS tech system that can go to faculty staff and students and so we have multiple means of contacting our university community including direct phone calls and so we we pride ourselves on going the extra mile to notify everyone that’s part of the university community when there is a problem,” said Salter.
The crisis action team performed a drill today focused on the Las Vegas Mandalay Bay shooting. The deadliest active shooter event on record.
