Starkville Police say it happened Sunday night on Reed Ridge Circle.
The suspect faces Aggravated Assault and Use of a Deadly Weapon charges along with several misdemeanor charges.
The alleged shoplifting incident happened Saturday. The suspect was arrested and all items returned by deputies.
If convicted, Wheeler faces up to 20 years in prison. He was a responding officer to a robbery back on June 3 of 2017.
The suspect is described as a black male, wearing a black "Tap-out" shirt, dark red pants, and white shoes.
The Prentiss County Sheriff's Department discovered meth during the traffic stop prompting the arrest.
Deputies say narcotics agents found marijuana, along with nearly $900 in cash.
The suspect faces Felony Possession of Meth and Burglary Tools charges. Deputies also slated five misdemeanor charges against the suspect.
Deputies were notified of the stolen truck and made the stop. Some alleged meth was found during a search of the box truck.
Around 20 arrests were made during the round up. Deputies are still searching for other suspects.
Investigators say the suspect is believed to have shaken the child early Monday morning at his home.
The suspect has since posted his $50,000 bond. Because the crime involved a juvenile, few details were available.
The Department of Human Services has him in a care facility. The Attorney General's Office is also assisting in the investigation.
The former trooper is charged with manslaughter. The Bruce man left the patrol shortly after the accident.
