Crash Claims the Life of Amory Teen
ITAWAMBA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)– The life of an Amory high school student was claimed after a wreck Tuesday night in Itawamba County.
The driver was 18-year old Dwight Phillips of Nettleton with passenger 17- year old Alexis Reed Haywood of Amory. They were traveling near the Monroe County line when the car allegedly veered off the road into a tree.
Authorities say the call came in just before 6:30 Tuesday night.
Itawamba County Sheriff Chris Dickinson confirmed that Haywood died at the scene.
Phillips is currently in critical condition at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. Sheriff Dickinson says Phillips suffered a head injury and a broken pelvis.
An accident reconstruction team will investigate the crash further Wednesday morning.
