CPD Responds To Reports Of A Person Jumping From A Bridge
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Columbus Police Department responded to reports of a person jumping from a local bridge Tuesday night.
CPD responded to the Luxapalila River Bridge at Waterworks Road shortly after 9 p.m.
CPD and Columbus Fire and Rescue located the victim within five to ten minutes.
The victim is a 21-year old male, who responders say was emotional distraught and had recently lost his mother.
“Once on scene, we were advised by some relatives that there was a young man that had jumped off the bridge into the water. We got there and we started searching and looking for him, and we found him about a 1/2 mile from the scene at the Luxapalila Bridge, where he had jumped off, and found out that he was okay,” says CPD Assistant Chief, Fred Shelton.
The young man was transported to the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus for further assessment.
