Conviction Reached In Ole Miss Capital Murder Case
LAFAYETTE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A man has been convicted of Capital Murder in the 2013 shooting death of an Ole Miss Graduate student.
Steven Wilbanks was found guilty by a 12-person jury Tuesday.
The state says Wilbanks, along with Joseph Lyons and Derrick Boone, went into to Zacharias McClendon’s apartment on December 18 of 2013, and shot him in the back of the head with a 16-gauge shotgun while he was washing dishes.
An audio clip was played in court Monday where Jurors heard Wilbanks admit to shooting McClendon.
Lyons and Boone have already pleaded guilty under a deal that gave them life sentences.
Wilbanks is expected to be sentenced today, February 14.
