Construction ongoing at two Columbus off-ramps

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Dirt is moving and construction zones are up at two busy Columbus off-ramps.

Crews are moving dirt on the east and westbound exit ramps off Highway 82 and onto 18th Avenue North.

Plans call for a double turn lane to be added to the westbound exit.

A traffic signal will be placed at the eastbound exit, near Cracker Barrel.

It will be at least a year before the construction is complete.

“We are proceeding on the southeast ramp here and on the northwest ramp over there. We are going to be widening these intersections. The progress is going very well. It was wet to start with but it’s hot and dry now, as you can see. So, everything is going good,” said MDOT engineer Michael Miller.

Drivers need to use caution in the construction zones with workers being near the off-ramp.

Once the 18th Avenue project is complete, work will begin at the Military Road off-ramps.
