Congressman Says He Is Pleased With President Trump’s Stance On North Korea Missile Crisis
TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – A Mississippi congressman believes China and Russia joining in with sanctions against North Korea will get the attention of the communist nation’s leader.
First District Congressman Trent Kelly was the guest speaker at the weekly meeting of the Tupelo Luncheon Civitan’s Club.
He said he was impressed with President Donald Trump’s speech earlier this week to the General Assembly of the United Nations.
During his address, President Trump promised to “totally destroy” North Korea, if it continues to develop nuclear weapons.
Congressman Kelly says North Korean leader Kim Jung Un is a dangerous man, who must not be allowed to develop missiles that could carry a nuclear weapon to Hawaii or the US mainland.
“I like President Trump’s strong stance on that and also you see the international community coming together when you have China and Russia sign on to sanctions, and that’s a big deal also. The Chinese, although it doesn’t look that way on paper, and in person all the time I think they are helping as much as they can because he’s just as much a threat to Asia as he is to the United States,” Congressman Kelly said.
Congressman Kelly also pointed out that last week, lawmakers approved a package of 12 appropriations bills for the 2018 fiscal year. He said that is the first time that action has been taken since 2009.
