Community Feeds First Responders At Furniture Factory Fire

PONTOTOC COUNTY, MISS. (WCBI) –  First responders at the American Furniture plant fire were fed well, thanks to the community.

When Nancy Adams Maxey heard about the massive fire, she knew her son, and other fellow firefighters would be at the scene for hours.

So, Maxey helped organize a food drive for the first responders.  Area stores, restaurants, businesses and individuals brought food, drinks and snacks to the parking lot, as firefighters continued working.

“Someone just has to jump up and say, let’s go and we did and everybody was very kind to donate, be it beans, garlic salt, whatever it is, ground meat to make the chili, everybody just stepped up and did it,” Maxey said.

Donations were also being collected at Fire Station Number Two in Pontotoc.
