Columbus Woman Finishes Marathon Despite Winter Weather

NEW HOPE, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus woman has finished a marathon, even after the one in Memphis was canceled.

Officials in Memphis, Tennessee canceled Saturday’s St. Jude marathon due to winter weather, so Allison Shackelford ran the 26-mile race in North Mississippi.

She finished it Sunday night in New Hope, where she was greeted by family and friends.

It took her a little more than five hours.

Shackelford did the race for Caledonia resident Will Ayers, who’s being treated for cancer at St. Jude.

This was Shackelford’s first full marathon.
