Columbus Ward 4 candidates speak to Columbus group

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Candidates vying for the Columbus Ward 4 seat made their pitch Friday.

All six candidates were invited to speak to the African-American Leadership Caucus of Lowndes County.

The group regularly hosts guests speakers to talk about issues in the community or to get out information.

The caucus is an informal group that was created about two years ago.

The candidates had three minutes to state their platform and then answered questions.

“I think anyone running for office ought to look forward to the opportunity to come before an organization to state their platform and let people know why they think they are the most important candidate,” said event organizer Leroy Brooks.

The Ward 4 special election will be held August 20th, after former Councilman Fredrick Jackson resigned.
