Columbus’ Tom Velek Named U.S. Youth Soccer Coach of the Year

Tom Velek is a professer at the Mississippi University for Women, he is also a very successful soccer coach at the youth level. Velek was recently named the U.S. Youth Soccer Coach of the Year at a U.S. Youth Soccer Awards Gala in Indianapolis, Indiana.

“When they said my name, the Mississippi table went berserk. It was a very humbling moment. I never would have thought about a national title. I never would have thought about a state championship” Velek told the Columbus Dispatch.

Velek helped organize TOPSoccer in Columbus, helped found and establish a Division II program, an Under-8 Development Program and the Columbus United Soccer Club.
