Columbus police officer passes away

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A Columbus officer who the community had rallied around during a long illness has passed away.

Captain Stacey Deans died Tuesday morning at a medical facility in Baldwyn.

Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green confirmed his passing.

Deans was over the Criminal Investigations Division at the Columbus Police Department.

He had been suffering from a spinal issue.

A fundraiser for Deans was held this past weekend in Columbus.

He started at CPD in June 2018.
