Columbus, Miss. (WCBI) — For the first time, the Columbus police department has created a recruitment video to help reach out to people interested in joining law enforcement.
With the help of producer Carlos Rosales, the recruitment video will be posted to the department’s website and social media pages in an effort to reach residents here in Columbus, and officer recruits from all over the globe.
The video couldn’t have come at a better time for the department, which has had two officers resign in the past month alone, making the strain on the force’s 51 officers even greater.
“We’re going to be recruiting very hard using these videos for the next 3 months…”, said Captain Fred Shelton, “…we’re going to push this information hard and fast.”
Shelton said the department is looking to add between 14 and 16 officers, and the city council has already approved the department’s request to hire even more.
Shelton also hopes the video will help recruit “…locally from the community who want to say…I want to put on that badge and be a part of the community activity, or part of SWAT team, ride a motorcycle whatever they want to do to contribute and become a vital part of this community.”
The recruitment video will be posted to the department’s website and social medias Wednesday.
