COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — The Columbus Police Department is in mourning today.
Captain Don English died this morning at Baptist Golden Triangle Hospital after suffering a heart attack overnight.
The 58-year-old joined the force last October as head of its detective division.
He’d retired after 37 years as a homicide detective and police administrator in Jefferson Parish, La.
Police Chief Selvain McQueen hired English to bring guidance to the investigations unit.
“Commander English was diligent in making Columbus a safer place to live. He was eager to learn of Columbus. Commander English was a welcome addition to the staff and will be sorely missed,” McQueen said.
