Columbus Neighboorhood Shooting Update

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- A Columbus man is arrested for firing shots in a city neighborhood.

24 year old Christopher Nelson is charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.

He is accused of shooting at a man who was trying to pick up his children.

The man is the ex-husband of Nelson’s current girlfriend.

Nelson reportedly told the victim he could not have the children and then fired at him.

The shooting happened shortly after 3 p.m. Friday (11/2) , on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive.

Within minutes, police pulled over the suspected vehicle a few blocks away on 14th Avenue North.

During that stop officers say they confiscated a stolen 9 millimeter handgun.
