Columbus Municipal School Board Welcomes New Member

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The newest member of the Columbus Municipal School Board takes the oath.

Yvonne Cox was sworn in this morning, March 6, by Mayor Robert Smith.

The city council appointed Cox in a unanimous vote.

She say she’s ready to get to work for school district in a spirit of unity.

“Teamwork,” Cox explained, “I think an effective school board member should be one that can listen and collaborate as needed. You’re not going to always be in agreement with each other, but you have to walk through things, talk it through so that you all are on the same page once you make a what I call a unified effort with our community.”

Cox replaces Angela Verdell, who announced she would not seek re-appointment.
