COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)- There was a packed house at the Trotter Convention Center in Columbus Thursday for an early Thanksgiving feast. Mayor Robert Smith hosted his annual Senior Citizens Thanksgiving Luncheon.
The event started seven years ago with around 400 people. More than a thousand attended Thursday’s gathering.
Mayor Smith says the event would not be a success without the dozens of volunteers from schools, the Columbus Air Force Base, and community organizations.
Senior who came say they appreciate the food and fellowship. Columbus resident Alice Lancaster said, “For the mayor to go to all this trouble and all the people that have been helping with this to get it together…. it’s an excellent way to get people together on a very special time of the year.”
Diners also enjoyed musical entertainment from the Senior Band during the lunch.
