Columbus Controlled Burn
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Some area firefighters got some real life training Tuesday morning. It’s one of the few programs in the state. The Columbus Fire Department performed a controlled burn on 8th Avenue. The homes are turned over to the department by the city and the department then uses the dilapidated homes to test firefighters skills. The fire training covered entry and exits of a dwelling along with spray patterns.
Firefighter Mike Gibsons says, “We’re one of the few departments in the state that actually are able to us dilapidated homes for live training”.
CFD Chief Duane Hughes says, “It helps the community by getting rid of any blight dilapidated housing. It removes the nuisance of a criminal element dwelling in the house.
The CFD has another burn scheduled for later in December and a few burns in January.
