Colom To Bring In Outside Prosecutor In Ball Case
COLUMBUS, MS ( WCBI) – A special prosecutor will be brought in to handle any prosecution in the Ricky Ball shooting case.
District Attorney Scott Colom announced this morning the Attorney General’s office has agreed to take over the case. Colom says he went that route after the AG assured him the case would be presented to a Lowndes County grand jury. The first year D.A. says he decided to hand the case off because he wanted to eliminate any appearance of bias and adds that is his intention that any future officer involved shootings be handled the same way. Ball was shot to death in October 2015 after he fled a traffic stop in Columbus. Former Columbus Police officer Canyon Boykin was been identified as the policeman who allegedly shot Ball. Boykin is no longer on the force but has filed suit against the city because of his dismissal from the force. You can see a replay of Colom’s press conference here.
