‘Class Crowns’ Project aims to sharpen reading skills

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – Hard work pays off for a group of third graders who have improved their reading skills thanks to members from the Junior Auxiliary of Tupelo.

Each week, five JA members have visited Lawhon Elementary where they listen to students read, and also tutor the youngsters in reading.

The program is called “Class Crowns” and it has helped students at two elementary schools sharpen their reading skills.

JA members say they look forward to the weekly tutoring sessions with the bright students.

“I just love these kids, look at these smiles, every week we leave with huge grins on our faces. We hope they are confident, they improve their skills and they know they can succeed if they work hard,” said “Class Crowns” Chairman Allen Bradford.

JA members hosted a party for the “Class Crowns” students.

Also, each student was able to get a book to take home and read through the summer.
