JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI) – The consolidation of school districts in Chickasaw County appears unlikely this legislative session.
House lawmakers passed an amendment to the bill on Monday that creates an advisory council to study the consolidation for a year. Now, it goes to the governor.
The Commission on Chickasaw Consolidated School District Structure committee will report back to lawmakers during next year’s session.
Earlier this year a bill to consolidate the district offices of Chickasaw County, Houston and Okolona School Districts was introduced in the legislature.
Two educators and one resident from each district will serve on the new committee.
