“The Castle Doctrine;” Your Rights As A Homeowner

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The death of an intruder over the weekend is leaving many people asking the question,  “Is the homeowner within his rights to use deadly force to repel an intruder?”

The law is known as “The Castle Doctrine.”

This doctrine is designed to mark a person’s home or property as a place that has certain protections and immunities.

Columbus attorney Carrie Jordan says this doctrine keeps homeowners safe legally, while they keep themselves and their properties safe.

The Castle Doctrine also covers you if an intruder attempts to break into your vehicle while you are occupying it.

WCBI will have more details about ways to protect yourself while protecting your property coming up tonight.
