PITTSBORO, Miss. (WCBI) — They’ve been it in for two months and today, it was time to show it off.
Calhoun County officials held an open house for the county’s new $5 million courthouse. Visitors and workers alike praised the wide hallways, spacious offices and work areas, and large courtrooms that allow the county to handle several court at once if needed.
The building also is free of the mold and other health issues that plagued the 90-year-old courthouse that was torn down.
“This is a wonderful place to work now. Everybody is all here together. We have places to store our things we have to keep for a certain period of time. It’s just a great difference and something Calhoun County should be proud of,” said Interim Chancery Court Clerk Martha Martin who worked in the old courthouse from 1976 to 2007 and then returned last year when she was named interim clerk.
State and federal grants helped pay for the new facility.
