Calhoun County Standoff Ends With Shooting

CALHOUN COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – A Calhoun County man continued to recover in a Memphis hospital Monday after a standoff with deputies and shooting himself in the foot.

Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan says Jerry White, 65, was arguing with his daughters Sunday afternoon. Deputies were called about 2 P.M. and left the scene when the daughters agreed to leave.

They returned to the Highway 32 home later in the day to get some belongings. Pollan said that is when White threatened to shoot his daughters and law enforcement.

White barricaded himself inside the home and the highway patrol swat team was called in after Calhoun County deputies tried for two hours to get him to leave the house.

About 12:30 A.M. Monday is when White shot himself, hitting an artery. Pollan said White threw the handgun out the front door and surrendered.

Pollan said White was heavily medicated.

White will be charged with aggravated domestic violence.
