Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department app fights crime, informs public
PITTSBORO, MISS. (WCBI) – The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department is using the latest technology to fight crime and get information to the public on your cell phone.
When someone breaks the law, Calhoun County Sheriff Greg Pollan relies on the public’s help to solve the case.
“The majority of crimes that are solved is with the public’s help,” said Sheriff Pollan.
The sheriff’s department now has an app for smartphones, making it even easier for people to post tips.
“You can submit a tip, anonymously, if you choose to, you can attach pictures to that tip, as a matter of fact, we got one this morning,” said Pollan.
The app also helps get information to residents through push notifications.
Sheriff Pollan sent an alert about a bridge on County Road 464 that had been closed.
“You can go in and see the inmates, who’s here, when they’re released, that type of stuff, probably most popular feature, that I’ve had most feedback on is, “where am I” you click it and it tells exactly where you are, exact location.”
The free app has had more than 1,000 downloads since its release last week.
The app was developed by a company called thesheriffapp.com and no taxpayer funds were used in the design of the app.
