CALEDONIA, Miss (WCBI)- Caledonia hosted their annual Veterans Day Parade to honor veterans.
Fondly remembering his days in the military, Former Staff Sergeant Benjamin Norris wanted to make sure people in his community showed appreciation to local servicemen and women. It’s what inspired him to organize a parade.
“It’s very important that people know the contributions that veterans and active duty members do for this country,” Norris said. “Without us or the ones now, who knows where we would be. The most important thing in this country is our military and so they should be celebrated.”
After the parade, Lieutenant Colonel Tiffany Sellers and Circuit Court Judge Michelle Easterling delivered speeches about the importance of celebrating veterans.
“It’s incredibly important to come out and show support for our men and women who have served our country and continue to serve our country,” Easterling said.
“They need to know that all of their efforts, all of their passion and fighting that they have done for this nation is appreciated,” Sellers said.
Although celebrating veterans on Veterans Day is important, Norris encourages all to show appreciation to veterans every day of the year.
“Anytime you can tell a veteran or active duty personnel ‘thank you for your service,’ you just don’t know what that means to us to hear that,” Norris said.
This is the second year of Caledonia’s Veterans Day Parade.
