BREAKING: Woman Arrested in Fatal Hit and Run

OKTIBBEHA COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)- The Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department has arrested the woman responsible for the hit and run accident that killed 23 year-old Dshante Nix of Starkville.

25 year-old Haleigh Brooke Singleton was arrested and charged, Thursday night, for leaving the scene of an accident with an injury.

The crash happened around 7:30 p.m. Monday evening on Old Highway 25 just north of Poorhouse Road.

Nix was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Oktibbeha County Investigator Lt. Brett Watson said Singleton turned herself in at the Olive Branch Police Department.

In the surveillance video we’ve been showing this week, it shows there was also a male passenger in the vehicle.

However, Watson said at this time they do not believe the male passenger was involved with the incident.

The crash remains under investigation.

Singleton’s bond was set at $25,000.00

“We were ultimately able to track her down, because quite frankly, she called in,” said Lt. Brett Watson, Oktibbeha County Investigator. “She and her companion made contact with us. We were able to arrange a meeting with them at the Olive Branch Police Department, and at this point we were able to take her into custody.”

“I’m happy, but what she’s being charged with I’m not pleased with that,” said Dominic Nix, the victim’s mother. ” They killed my son, and they just got a low bond like $25,000.”

Nix said she’s upset with Singleton’s bond and charges and would like for them both to be upgraded.

At this time Singleton is the only person in custody, however, Watson said more arrest could be possible.
