BREAKING – West Point Police Release Details On Deadly Shooting
West Point, MS, Friday, November 25, 2016: On November 25, 2016, at 1:30am, the West Point Police Department was dispatched to UFCW Local 1529 (formally known Bryan Union Hall) located at 280 Lewis O’Neal Road in reference to a shooting. Officers were advised that shots were fired inside the building. Upon arrival officers discovered a young lady inside the building suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
She was transported from the scene by ambulance and later died at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. The identity of the victim is not being released pending notification of family. The shooting occurred during a concert in the building with an out of town rapper performing on stage.
According to Tim Brinkley, West Point Police Chief, “We have recovered shell casings from at least two different weapons but it’s not clear who started the shooting or why. These incidents are particularly challenging for investigators because of the large number of people and the low lighting of the venue that tend to distort the perception of any witnesses.”
Police are investigating the incident, interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. A list of suspects is being developed. No arrests have been made but investigators are confident that they will have someone in custody soon. The Clay County Coroner is transporting the body to the State Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.
Police are asking for party goers who have cell phone video footage to please contact them. This incident is still under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers or the West Point Police Department at 494-1244.
