Video: Boykin Manslaughter Trial To Be Moved
COLUMBUS ( WCBI) – An outside jury will hear testimony in the manslaughter trial of former Columbus Police officer Canyon Boykin.
Attorneys for Boykin argued successfully that media coverage of the shooting death of Ricky Ball ruined any chance of finding an impartial jury in Lowndes County. They also pointed to several peaceful rallies in the community as another reason the case would be well known. Prosecutors and defense attorneys will now each submit a list of potential counties they feel could host the trial but Judge Lee Coleman will make that final selection. Both sides have ten days to submit a list of three counties.
Judge Coleman heard various other pre-trial motions this afternoon to begin deciding which arguments and evidence will be admissible.
