ARLINGTON, Tex. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – After a dominant start to the 2018 season, Ole Miss junior right-hander Brady Feigl has been named NCBWA Pitcher of the Month for February.
Feigl is the first Rebel ever to earn the honor. Elected a team captain for 2018, the Chesterfield, Missouri, native has been the anchor of an electric Ole Miss pitching staff. He’s tied for first in the nation with four wins at 4-0 on the season, and his strikeout-to-walk ratio of 12.5 is 18th nationally and third in the Southeastern Conference.
Feigl was 2-0 in two six-inning starts in February, allowing one unearned run (0.00 ERA) and zero extra-base hits. He opened the season against Winthrop, allowing just six hits and walking one while striking out six in an 8-1 Rebel win.
Then came his most dominant performance of the season against Tulane. Feigl allowed just two hits and didn’t walk a single batter in 6.0 innings of work. The Green Wave plated an unearned run, but it wasn’t nearly enough as Ole Miss won 9-1.
The Rebels then leaned heavily in Feigl in Game 2 in Long Beach on March 3. Coming off its first loss of the season, Ole Miss needed its captain, and he delivered, putting together the longest start of his career at 7.1 innings before giving way to closer Dallas Woolfolk, who preserved a gutsy 4-3 win.
Most recently, Feigl turned in a brilliant seven innings of work against Eastern Illinois. He allowed a season-high eight hits, but he countered with a season-high seven strikeouts and didn’t let a single Panther cross the plate in seven innings of a 4-0 shutout win for Ole Miss.
Feigl’s next start is likely to come Saturday afternoon as the Rebels host Tennessee for their first SEC series of the season. First pitch for Game 2 at Swayze Field is set for 1:30 p.m. CT on SECN+.
