Box car parade helps preschoolers learn rules on and off the road
CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – It was a bit of a traffic jam at a local head start Monday morning, but the 4 and 5-year-old drivers were following the rules.
Preschoolers at Clay County Head Start dressed up as cars, motorcycles, and trucks made out of cardboard.
They’ve been learning about the importance of rules on the road and in the classroom.
They paraded through the hallways obeying and observing traffic signals. Teachers hope those lessons stick in class as well.
“It’s part of our curriculum and that’s why we are having this box car parade because we are talking about rules and regulations and rules and regulations can go in the classroom where you are talking about classroom rules as well as on the road,” said teacher Cynthia Ewing.
The box car parade is an annual event at Clay County Head Start.
