Bousfield Named NCBWA Hitter of the Week
OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI/Ole Miss Athletics) – Junior outfielder Auston Bousfield was tabbed for weekly honors on Tuesday when he was named the national offensive Player of the Week by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers of America when the team announced its weekly honors.
Bousfield was also named the Southeastern Conference Player of the Week when the conference office announced its weekly honors, marking the second time this season an Ole Miss player was tabbed for their offensive performance.
The junior centerfielder hit a blistering .714 for the weekend series at No. 17 Kentucky as the Rebels posted series sweep of the Wildcats on the road. It marked the first series sweep of a nationally-ranked team on the road since a sweep of No. 16 Arkansas in the 2009 season to clinch a share of the SEC Championship.
Bousfield tallied a team-leading eight runs scored and also posted seven RBI on the weekend as he went 10-for-14 with four doubles and a home run. The performance extended his league-leading hit total to 72 for the season and improved his season batting average nearly 30 points to .371 and second in the conference.
He went 5-for-6 in game two of the series with a career-high six RBI and scored three runs in the Sunday game as Ole Miss rallied for the win and swept the series.
The Rebels return to action at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night against Southern Miss at Swayze Field. Ole Miss will then continue SEC play with a three-game series against Arkansas at home this weekend.
