CLAY COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI)-It’s worked in Lowndes County and now job recruiters hope it will give Clay County an edge.
Today, Clay County supervisors approved issuing up to $10 million dollars in bonds for utility, road and site improvements if a major industry wants to come to the county’s new thousand acre megasite on the northern edge of West Point. With the paperwork ready, the county can issue the bonds on short notice, avoiding delays for the industry.
Ron Malloney, Vice President of Economic Development, said, “So what we have done today is we have positioned Clay County to be able when an economic development project comes along, to be able to approve the go ahead and start the bonding process versus having to request and start from scratch.”
Only projects with a value of more than $100 million dollars would qualify.
