LEE COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) – Bond is set at $1 million for a Lee County man accused of stealing credit cards from his parents, and trying to run down sheriff’s deputies when they tried to question him.
Sheriff Jim Johnson says he and several deputies went to a county residence Friday morning to serve a search warrant on Phillip Eric Davis, 25.
Johnson says deputies had the house surrounded when Davis came out, got into a car and tried to flee, almost running a deputy over in the process.
Sheriff Johnson and his deputy had to shoot the cars’ tires to stop Davis. He was arrested and no one was injured.
The sheriff says he is satisfied with the high bond because of Davis’ criminal history.
“Most of the victims in this entire situation, Mr. Davis has dealt with in the past few years I’ve dealt with him has involved his family it is to support a drug habit, young man has a drug problem and he needs to get some help, number one he needs to accept responsibility for what he’s done and I think the help is out there but as long as he chooses this we have to do what we have to do to protect society and I think that’s what the court understood today upon us pleaing and we ensure he don’t get back out and in the general public and endanger anybody else,” said Sheriff Jim Johnson.
Davis is charged with two counts of aggravated assault on a police officer, five counts of credit card use with intent to defraud and one count of felony eluding.
