Blue Suede Cruise takes over Tupelo

TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI)- The chance of rain couldn’t keep these car lovers away from Blue Suede Cruise in Tupelo.

It is the 17th year for the event which is held in the parking lot and inside the Bancorp South Arena.

About 750 cars mostly from the ’50s and ’60s are featured at a time when different brand cars had distinctive looks.

Event organizer Allen McDaniel says the Blue Suede Cruise began close to the same time as now closed Tupelo Auto Museum.

“Actually the museum had been opened I think maybe one year when we started this. And they were our focal point. We did our registration there, and a lot of people thought that the museum was the sponsor for the Blue Suede Cruise. But there was really never any connection between the automobile museum and the Blue Suede Cruise. We just worked with them and kind of associated with them,” said McDaniel

McDaniel says to qualify for the show the vehicle has to be at least 25-years old and has a Mississippi Antique car tag. He says numerous area businesses sponsored the event.
