Blue Mountain Offers Online Business Degree
BLUE MOUNTAIN – Not only does Blue Mountain College offer a wide range of courses online, but starting this fall students will be able to earn their Bachelor of Business Administration degree – from start to finish – via the Internet.
“The online business program will be a strategic part of our future growth at Blue Mountain College,” said Dr. David Shankle, chair of the BMC Department of Business. “We are truly excited about this addition to our department and for the opportunity that will be available to so many students.”
Shankle said this was a logical next step for the 141-year-old college to take since growth among colleges and universities with online degree programs has increased significantly the past few years.
He noted that an online degree program offers many their only opportunity to get a college degree.
“For people who are married and maybe have a job and children, and just aren’t able to fit a traditional college schedule into their lifestyle, this delivers the education to them in their own setting,” he said.
Shankle emphasized the new online program would not replace the traditional college program, just make it more readily available to more people.
“The typical high school graduate and community college transfer find that it works very well for them,” he said. “But it is also a really good fit for the adult who realizes the need for this degree – or maybe for someone who just wants to make a career change.”
Shankle also said the online degree program will include more than just coursework, with plans to work with students on their job-seeking skills, their interview skills and their resume preparation.
The business courses will be taught by a combination of the BMC full-time faculty and highly qualified adjuncts from Mississippi.
“This is a Mississippi based program,” Shankle said, “and we think it is important that our students are taught by Mississippi faculty.”
