Barges Strike Columbus Lock And Dam
[syndicaster id=’6141841′]
COLUMBUS,Ms (WCBI) – Two barges are resting against the Columbus Dam this morning after apparently breaking away from their tow.
Both are parallel to the dam portion of the structure but water is being released through the dam. Other tows and barges have been seen locking through the facility this morning so the lock appears to be operating normally. WCBI is waiting on the Army Corps of Engineers to provide more details on how the barges hit the dam. It is not known if Friday’s heavy rains played a role in causing the Tenn Tom Waterway to rise and contribute to the barges hitting the dam
