Video: Ball Family Files Intent To Sue Columbus

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The father of Ricky Ball has filed a notice of intent to sue the city of Columbus.

Ball was shot and killed by former Columbus police officer Canyon Boykin last October after Ball ran from a traffic stop.

City Attorney Jeff Turnage confirms the city was served with the intent notice on Tuesday.

The wrongful death lawsuit would be filed in federal court.

Turnage released a statement to WCBI saying in part… “The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has concluded its investigation but has not turned over any results to the city at this time. Once those results are received, we plan to vigorously defend the lawsuit.”

A notice of intent must be served before a lawsuit can be filed.

The district attorney’s office has turned over MBI’s findings to a special prosecutor to present to a grand jury.

That grand jury will decide if any criminal charges will be filed.
