Baldwyn’s Gates, Lindsey Sign with ICC Basketball
BALDWYN, Miss. (WCBI/LetsGoICC.com) — Itawamba Community College head men’s basketball coach Grant Pate announced the signing of Baldwyn High School basketball standouts Dee Gates and Tevin Lindsey on Tuesday.
“This is a big day for our program,” said Pate. “Dee and Tevin are proven winners coming from a great program like Baldwyn has had for so many years. We feel like they will be able to easily transition to the collegiate style of play and provide an immediate impact next season.”
Gates averaged 13.5 points per game before suffering a season-ending knee injury during his senior season and still earned All-District honors despite the injury.
“It feels real good knowing I’ll be playing at ICC next year,” said Gate. “I feel like this is going to be a real good fit for me to be able to continue playing basketball. I’ve been out for a good minute and they are going to give me an opportunity so I’m going to make the best of it.”
As a junior, he average 15 points per game and helped the Bearcats advance to a runner-up finish in the 2012 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 2A State Championship while earning All-Prentiss Count, All-State and All-District honors.
Lindsey averaged 16.2 points per game to help guide the Bearcats to the 2013 MHSAA Class 2A State title and being named All-State and All-District as a senior.
“I’m glad I’m getting to play basketball close to home so my family can come watch me play,” Lindsey said. “The coaches are great and I love the campus and the gym. I’m just ready to be an Indian.”
During his junior season, he averaged 13.6 points per game to earn All-Prentiss County and All-District honors.
“Dee and Tevin are kids that have played in three of the last four state championships, but it goes beyond that,” said Baldwyn head coach Jason McKay. “These two guys were great examples for our younger kids on not just winning basketball games, but on how to go about winning basketball games. The impact they had on our basketball team will be something that will be felt for years to come.”
Gates and Lindsey are the first two signings in the Indians 2013-14 basketball class. Pate plans to announce more signings in the near future.
