Video: Attala Steel of Kosiusco Expands

KOSCIUSKO, Miss. (WCBI) – An Attala County industry expands creating about two dozen jobs. Attala Steel Industries of Kosciusko is the latest Mississippi business giving a boost to the local economy there.
A ribbon being cut at Attala Steel Industries in Kosciusko a sign that the company operating since 1971, is bursting at the seams.
“Thirty thousand foot expansion coming here. Three different manufacturing galvanization fabrication of all steel here.And also being able to use it in a clean energy way. So we are very proud to be a part of this,” said Phil Bryant, Ms Governor.
Whether Attala Steel Industries or Yokohama in West Point, Governor Phil Bryant believes we are beginning to do better economically, at least on the state level.
“We do feel it. And you look at Attala County, the growth that we have here. We’re moving our community college into a new facility so they’ll be able to expand work force development. And that is what its about. We’ve been creating over 5,000 jobs here in the state of Mississippi. We are growing at one percent,” said Bryant.
The plant currently employs 34 workers. Plant owner Billy Atwood says the expansion could not have been possible if not for dedicated hard working people.
“Without good friends good people good area development, the city and state that we are so fortunate to live in. None of anything you see her would have been possible,” said Atwood.
“This is one of the homegrown businesses. Billy Atwood is a Mississippian that built this company the old fashion way. He worked hard he got up early, every morning. He invested his own fortune time and talent,” said Bryant.
And everyone attending the ceremony is banking on future success of the expansion representing a company investment of five million dollars.
Atwood has plans on doubling the amount of workers in the next six months.
