Video: Arrests Made In West Point Murder

West Point, MS, Monday, October 5, 2015: West Point Police now have in custody the two suspects that they believe are responsible for a Friday evening murder that occurred at the Point Place Apartments on North Forest Street in that city. 23 year old Tevin Demetrius Hodges of 102 Green Hill Dr., Starkville, was taken into custody in Oktibbeha County last night.

The Starkville Police Department received a tip and subsequently contacted the Oktibbeha County S.O. who made the initial contact. Once contact was made the suspect agreed to surrender himself and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to West Point late last night by West Point officers.

, aka; “slim” (last known address was 1030 N. Montgomery St. Apt. E) was arrested by the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department this morning. West Point officials were contacted shortly after 8:00am by the Sheriff of Sunflower County who reported that Mr. Townsend had surrendered himself in Indianola, Ms. and was in his custody. West Point officers were immediately dispatched to transport him back to West Point.

Chief Brinkley reported that robbery appears to be primary motive but declined to say if the crime was drug related. Both suspects have been charged with Capital Murder and are being held at the Clay County Detention Center. No bond has been set. They are scheduled for arraignment in the West Point Municipal Court on Tuesday.

According to Chief Tim Brinkley, “These suspects were taken into custody so quickly because of the vigilance and assistance of the Starkville Police Department, the Oktibbeha County Sheriff’s Department and the Sunflower County Sheriff’s Department. As a matter of practice we are much more efficient and effective when all law enforcement agencies share information and work together and this is a prime example of that.”
